Work In Progress...

Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to announce that our idea is pretty much finalized!

...and may I just say, Thank. God.

After going back and forth between my partner, Clara, different parts from both of our ideas were able to successfully come together to compile pretty much a full film introduction. Over the course of a few days, we constantly sent each other voice memos via iMessage until we finally found a concept that we found interesting enough to stick with. To the right, I included a screenshot of what our iMessage conversations have been looking like over the past week or so. I think it is funny to show how we literally just talked out loud to ourselves and sent our little ideas to each other until it came together to form something so much bigger. We would send voice memos minutes long to one another, adding details and descriptions to everything the previous voice memo had. By the end of our conversations, we had pretty much narrowed down all of our ideas to our main concept that we loved from the beginning, (The police comedy/thriller I had briefly talked about in my previous blog post). I must say, it definitely is a relief to finally have at least somewhat of an idea that we know we can make into something incredible with just a little more planning. Initially, we wanted a pretty even balance between both thriller and comedic genre conventions. However, at this point in our planning, we feel that it would be best to stick with more of a comedy introduction. Ideally, we would like to have some thriller moments in the hypothetical remainder of our "movie" but since that technically won't be created, we may just throw in a few thriller-like concepts within our introduction while still keeping it primarily a comedy.

Here, I would like to talk about some pieces that were our biggest inspirations in wanting to bring our idea to life but for starters, I will give a run down of what we want our movie introduction to include. May I preface by saying that more details will come in future posts once we finally develop our storyboard and shot list. But until then, here is what you need to know.

I want our introduction to initially open up with a shot of the two police officers walking away from the camera, with their backs to it. Right off the bat, I want one of the police officers to run down a different hallway, showing they are scared to enter the interrogation room. The other police officer will immediately grab their arm, pulling them back to the main walkway as they continue to walk down the hall. This will establish the relationship that the two characters have while simultaneously giving the scene more depth right form the beginning. I want this walking shot to be cut between random still shots of objects that would foreshadow important details in the rest of our movie if it were to actually be real. With this compilation of shots, music that would seem to be non-diegetic would be playing over until interrupted by a sound bridge of one of the police officers talking. This would be used as a transition into the next scene. Here, the officers would be questioning the criminal and trying to get their attention. Meanwhile the criminal will be doing quite comedic things in contrast to the false tone of the opening. They'll be doing things such as trying to order a pizza, or texting a friend, or playing a game etc. The criminal will then take an air-pod out and the music will stop, demonstrating that the sound was actually diegetic. The criminal would say something along the lines of "sorry could you repeat that?" and the two police officers would look dumb founded that the criminal hasn't been listening this entire time. The remainder of the opening would consist of various questions being asked by the officers in an attempt to figure out what the criminal did. During this time, there will be banter back and forth to add more of a light-hearted feel. The introduction will end with the funnier cop (the one that tried to run away at the very beginning) guessing what the criminal actually did (as a joke) but she ends up being right. The criminals jaw will drop and the screen will go black showing the title while playing a song.

As of now, our only weakness is trying to come up with ideas, dialogue, or concepts to fill in our plot holes. However, when the time comes, everything will fall into place and work out just fine.

Before I leave you, I want to link some of my inspirations like I mentioned earlier. Hopefully with further context, similarities will be able to be seen through these films in comparison to my own.
