More Music

As I have said before, music makes up such an important part of cinema. In a previous blog post, I discussed a song option that we have chosen for the first part of our film opening. We have reached out to the creators and are in the process of waiting to hear back. Worst case scenario, we will end up using royalty free music on the YouTube Audio Library that I have also brought up before. However, I remember mentioning how we plan on using another song within our introduction and that is exactly what this blog post is about. With the first song "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want" by The Smiths, this song opens our film with an almost eerie tone. Since this is the song that will be playing in the criminal's ear, we feel that the lyrics match perfectly with the intended vibe of the criminal. Now we would like to chose another song that may be seen as more playful to better fit the aesthetic of the movie.

I know for me personally, I often base my judgement about how much I am going to like the movie based on the type of music that is used within the beginning. With our first song, we are able to establish the mystery factor of the criminal, igniting a sense of curiosity amongst our viewers. Now with our second song, when our title appears for the first time, we really want to get our audience hype, eager to watch the rest of our film as they begin to think, "Oh, I just know this will be good." We would want this song to be more a timeless classic that the audience will be able to recognize. Here were some of our options:

I feel that all of these songs fit really well with the vibe that we want to give off, ending our opening on a higher note, setting the mood with music. A great example of a movie that I can think of that successfully did this was the opening to Mr.Right that I have linked in my blogs before. But I will include it here so you can see what Clara and I are aiming for:

Despite the movie being about a hitman, the mood is instantly lifted with the song and weirdly enough, encapsulates the ambiance perfectly. After putting more thought into this, we have narrowed it down to two songs, Hit Me With Your Best Shot by Pat Benatar or Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes. Please do us a favor and click here to vote on which song you would rather hear play with the appearance of our title within our film opening. We feel that the lyrics of the first option match the comedic struggle of the officers and the dynamic that they have while working together, as if they could do anything. The second option is much more badass if you will and really creates an empowering moment from a funny scene which occurs right before, thus making it even more funny. As of now, we have reached out to the owners of both of these songs to see if we even get a response back. But if we do, please share your thoughts on which song you prefer and take the linked poll!
